Most children with ADD and ADHD are pretty intelligent; however, due to poor attention and concentration they stay behind in their education which in result affects their self confidence and may also lead to developing anxiety, anger, depression, behavior problems, alcohol or drug abuse, etc.  If children don’t receive psychotherapy as a child they end up becoming adult ADD or ADHD.  
Most medical doctors and psychiatrist due to their training they can only offer medicine for children with ADD or ADHD. Such medicines do not treat the problem but to some percentage control the symptoms. However, most parents especially in west refuse their children to take them due to various kinds of side effect s.
Medicine alone cannot treat such disorders along other emotional problems, which accompany with such disorders, including depression, anxiety, poor self-esteem, etc. What actually they need is psychological treatment.

However, Psychological treatment can treat their anxiety, poor self-esteem, depression, anger etc. It also can improve their attention/concentration and reduce their hyperactivity.  In rare cases there might be a need for small dosage of medicine.
Finally, sometimes a child who seem naughty, trouble maker or not good at school, could be an ADD or ADHD child. In such cases psychological and neuropsychological assessment can rule out such problems and reduce child suffering.
